NET 701 MODULE 6: CREATING A LUN

MANAGING ISCSI LUNS

In this exercise, we are going to set up an iSCSI LUN on a storage system and attach it as a drive on the Windows system which will act as a local drive on the windows workstation.

In this exercise, you set up an iSCSI LUN on a storage system and attach it as a drive on the Windows

LICENSE AND START THE ISCSI SERVICE

I have added the license for ISCSI by going to system manager\configuration\ licenses. Then enabled the ISCSI service form the protocals\iscsi.

Then I have logged into the windows and started the ISCSI service.

Then went the Start button and, in the “Search programs and files textbox,” enter ISCSI initiator. I the properties of I ISCSI I have given the target.

Next, I have to configure the iSCSI service to see the e0a target portal group for your assigned
storage system.I have configured it in the discovery tab, by clicking the discover portal button.

Then I could found the discovered target in the target tab.But the current status is inactive, we have to connect the target to the storage for making it enable.

I have checked the portal groups and found four groups. Then clicked the connect button in the target to connect it to the target, once it got connected the status has changed to connected.

USE NETAPP SYSTEM MANAGER TO CREATE A LUN

In this task, we use NetApp System Manager to create a volume and a LUN, and attach the LUN to an iSCSI initiator group (igroup).

In NetApp System Manager, Open Controller1/Node1 and click Storage > LUNs.Click the Create button to create LUN.

I have given details in the next window, I have selected windows 2008 or later in the type.

Then given the initiator group details which is from the windows machine.

Select the newly created initiator group and click Next.

Once we create the LUN we can find it in the LUNs tab as online.I have repeated the steps for Task 3 to create a second LUN called lun2.

ACCESS LUNS FROM WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2

To configure LUNs , access Disk Management in server manager in WIN Server. I t was not showing in the binging, then I have rescanned and found two new volumes.

I have made it online and initialize the disks.

Then created a new volume and given a drive letter.

NONDISTRUPTIVELY MOVE A VOLUME THAT CONTAINS A LUN

In this task, we are going to move a volume containing LUN2 to a new aggregate and then move it back. I have done it with the help of command prompt while moving the volume I was able to access the share drive without any interruption.

Here we are completing the 6th module tasks, thank you all.
