Net701- VMware Lab2

Configuring VMware ESXi

Here in this lab, we are installing anESXi machine, where we can create our virtual machines and VM environment. ESXi is a type one hypervisor provided by VMware.

Here I am preparing a client machine and installing vSphere client to connect to my ESXi host after the installation. Once I tried to install vSphere client it asked for .Net program to run the installation, I have enabled the .net from the command line. Then the installation has completed successfully.

Now we are going to install the ESXi host machine. I have created a new machine and attached the ESXi installation iso to the CD drive and booted from the ISO.

I have given a root password to ESXi which will be used to login to the host after installation.

It took around half an hour to installation, once the installation has completed I have gone back to the client where we installed Vsphere client. Now we have to connect to the ESXi using the vSphere client, here I have provided the credentials which I have given while installing, also using the host IP address to connect.

It got logged in to the host and I could see the EXSi host in the inventory.

Here I am configuring the time , DNS and routing information for ESXi host. I have changed the time of the ESXI to the same time of the DC, for that I have configured NTP client in the host. The time synchronization is important for some programs to run and install.

Then I have configured the correct DNS configuration.

Now we have to add this ESXi host to the domain. While I was connecting to the domain, it gives me a communication error and it was not connecting. Then I have tried various steps and found out that the time and DNS configuration was not correct in the domain controller. I have changed the configurations and tried to connect again, this time, it got connected without any problem.

Now the ESXi server is ready to go, we can proceed with the net labs now.
